Before your appointment, we encourage you to perform self-examinations of your skin including your private areas as those areas are not routinely checked during the examination. If you notice any concerns or changes, please mention them to your healthcare provider during your appointment.

What to expect:

1. Upon arrival your doctor obtains a detailed medical history, focusing on any personal or family history of skin cancer, past sun exposure, history of sunburns, use of tanning beds, and any previous skin lesions or treatments. This information helps the healthcare provider tailor the examination to the patient’s specific risk factors and concerns.
   
   
2. you’ll be asked to remove clothing and change into a gown or drape, ensuring your privacy while allowing access to the skin for examination. You do not need to remove your bra and underwear unless there is a specific lesion or area of concern in those regions.
   
   
3. During the examination, you will be asked to lie down on a comfortable bed while your healthcare provider systematically inspects your skin from head to toe, they even check between your toes and fingers to make sure nothing is missed during the examination. They will use a device called a dermoscope, which allows for a closer examination of moles and lesions. Photos of any concerning lesions may be taken and mapped and saved in their system for future reference and education.
   
   
4. After the examination, you will have time to redress in privacy. Following this, your healthcare provider will discuss their findings and management recommendations with you. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions and discuss any concerns you may have regarding your skin health.
